The best advice for me was never told to me but shown to me. I Learned by some great people in my life that we must work hard and appreciate everything we have. We all have those items and things we wanted and wish our parents would buy them for us. Mine taught me to work hard, earn my own money and buy it myself. I believe by doing this I defiantly appreciate the stuff I worked hard for. I learned to take care of my stuff.
At a young age.
Even when I was young, just a little over walking age, I was being taught this life lesson. I learned the more I helped the more rewards I got in return. I then expanded to helping neighbors with their chores and yard work and would get money in return. Being yard work was my favorite I received a gift (for either birthday or Christmas), a toy wheelbarrow. I bet no one knew you could wear out a wheelbarrow; well, I used this wheelbarrow for everything. I hauled lots of water (drive used to flood), branches, dirt and tools. Imagine a 5-year-old with real tools! I then learned I loved taking things apart and deep cleaning everything.
First expensive buy.
Besides everyday normal things such as toys, CD’s, movies I saved my money for a something expensive. I Believe I was about 13 years old or so my mom took me shopping for a 19-inch colored television. It was around 119 dollars. I worked hard and saved all my money. A year later or so I bought Nintendo 64. When I turned 16 years old, I bought my first vehicle. I always cherished everything I bought on my own. I had parents supporting me, but I worked and paid for my stuff on my own.
First job at what age?
My first job was around 3ish years old (yes, I was young) helping my older brother cut lawns (neighbors and grandparents). With the help of our parents, we did turn it into a successful business years later. By learning to work hard and achieve so many goals at a young age I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I might not have realized the valuable lessons I was learning right then and there but, looking back years later, many lessons were taught.
Most thankful for.
I am most thankful for having so many role models in my life. I am thankful my parents didn’t hand me everything I said I wanted. I learned how to respect money, save money, work hard, and not be afraid of trying something new. My dad had many wise words to say even though in my head I would role my eyes sometimes. But most of the time he was right, and I knew he wanted to teach me as much as he could. While my mom was always getting me to help her and to use up my hyperactive energy by giving me cleaning projects and yard.
Conclusion?
Teach your kids to work hard and appreciate the things they have. Do not give your kids everything they want because they asked for it. Yes, we want to spoil them and want a better life than we ever had. But at the same time, we want them to grow strong, respect property, and respect others. If we give them everything they will grow to be spoiled, rotten person and expect everything to be handed to them. Now some may outgrow this, but the majority will always be expecting to get everything they want.
What is something you are thankful you learned?
