To lose it all

A person can lose all their possessions in many ways. They could have a fire, have a natural disaster happen to them, be robbed, have an ex take it all, lose it to the bank or sell it all. As much as these would be horrible ways to lose your possessions, you still haven’t lost…

What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

A person can lose all their possessions in many ways. They could have a fire, have a natural disaster happen to them, be robbed, have an ex take it all, lose it to the bank or sell it all. As much as these would be horrible ways to lose your possessions, you still haven’t lost everything. Family is way more important than materialistic things! You can have all the money and all the stuff in the world but without a family you have nothing. What would you do if you lost all your materialistic possessions?

What is the first thing to do?

Honestly this is like having a fresh new starting point in life. I think (keyword think, I am not in this position) I would buy a truck, a camper and travel. I would like to explore and go everywhere. There would be no downsizing or selling stuff. But this lifestyle is not for everyone, and I totally get it. So, where to honestly start? You would have to get the bare necessities to live, cook, and clean. It’s like you are in your early 20’s and starting off again. Stay positive and look at this in a good way.

Positive? Ughhh…

You may think; how can I be positive when I just lost my life stuff? Well, the old stuff you wanted to throw away but felt like you shouldn’t, is now gone. The belongings you have not worn or touched in three years (if you haven’t worn or touched them then you probably never will) are now gone. The old stuff you been meaning to upgrade or buy new, now is your chance. This is one great way to get rid of the old and downsize. When we are young, we want to buy lots of stuff and have lots of materialistic possessions. As we get older, we want less and less. For me I know if I could (I am attached to all my possessions unfortunately) I would get rid of lots of stuff and travel more. Is there stuff you wish you could just get rid of?

Have no money and don’t know what to do!

Family and true friends are always willing to help in some way. It’s things like this that brings family to a closer bond. As much as we hate asking for handouts, sometimes we need to. Create a list and give it to family or local churches who want to help. You will get through this just like the first time you moved out of your parents’ house. You will struggle but, in the end, you will come back stronger and better than before. Remember everything happens for a reason. This is where you will find out who your true friends are, and which family member is willing to go out of their way now that you are down. At this time, you can use family and friends as emotional support too. This is where insurance comes into play, if your possessions were lost in a fire, a natural disaster, or robbery.

Downsize!

You do not need to replace every possession you had. Let’s say you haven’t used a blender in three years, but you owned one previously. You do not need to buy a blender you probably will never use. Also, you can eliminate possessions by replacing two items with a 2in1 item (this meaning the 2in1 item does both things that the 2 items do individually). Less stuff means less clutter and maybe you will use that item more often. You can also buy items as you need them. Nothing says you must replace everything that was lost today. How could you downsize and get rid of Items you haven’t touched in over a year?

Reflection.

Do not get discouraged and stay positive, as well as focused. Plan on what you would want to replace. Create a list of items and number them or mark them most important to least important. Remember it’s just materialistic stuff; at least you have family, love, and friends that is way more important than belongings. Materialistic stuff can be replaced. Look at this as an opportunity to downsize. Use this bad thing to have a new fresh start with new, clean stuff. We may not know why, how or who, but everything happens for a reason!

Could you lose everything and be okay still?
