What have you been putting off doing? Why?

We all get caught up in the daily routine in life. Sometimes we forget the important things in life, or we always think we have plenty of time. But this lifetime we live in is very short. As we get older, we start to realize more and more our little clock is ticking. With the cost of living going up we see more and more people working longer hours and two or more jobs to make ends meet. We all want to take more vacations and do more things especially with our kids and family. Spending time with our family is always number one on the list but providing for them and making them happy is also number one. We all said and even our parents have said, “we want a better life for our children, so they don’t have to work hard like me”. What sacrifices do you make for your family?

How did we get caught up in the routine?

We all want to live comfortably and provide for our family. With the cost of living increasing every year and or jobs being more demanding; we are forced to work more. We tend to have a larger workload, so we work longer hours. When overtime is available, we not only think about the extra work we can get done but also the extra money. Sometimes our bosses overload us with tasks and deadlines we will take our work home. Thus, cutting into our valuable time with our families. We want to spend time with our family, but we also want to make extra money at work. The hardest thing about wanting both things is that we need to find a balance between them both.

Finding balance?

Weeklong vacations are becoming a thing of the past with the rise in the cost of living and job demands. Workplaces are hiring less people and putting a higher workload on individuals. From a company standpoint makes total sense to reduce costs and less training. From an individual standpoint it’s the worst idea ever due to not being approved to take time off, higher stress from workload, and less time with family. I know this will be easier said than done but if a job is not working for your needs, then you need to leave. Your family is way more important than working your life away and not seeing them. I know a person example from myself; I wish when I was younger, I was able to see my father more and go on family vacations. I know my father looked at it a totally different day. For overtime and holidays, he would say I am making “X” amount and that’s like working a whole another week. I didn’t understand it back then, I just wanted to spend valuable time with him. Now as I am older, I am realizing I am following exactly in his footsteps. We need to come up with a balance of work life and living life. This is probably easier said than done also but we need to bring back a family night. Just needs to be one night out of the week that the family will do something together. It can be playing board games, movie night, playing games on the television, going for a walk or bike ride. We need to bring vacations at least one long one (a weeklong) and then a few short ones (weekend or day long) throughout the year. I am pretty good at doing this with my family. You must make time for your family before it’s too late and the kids grow up, and you missed living life.

Cost of living on the rise!

I get we have our bills, and everything is getting more expensive. Again, easier said than done, we need to pay down our debt and live within our means. We all want the big, fancy, name brand stuff but we shouldn’t buy the biggest, best of everything. We all want to, and social media and advertisements tell us we need to, but we really do not need to. If we plan and make a good budget, then we can get back to living our life and enjoy the precious time with our families. There are many great tools and phone apps to help us budget and save. There are great resources for helping us plan and budget to cut down bills. Our goal in life is to work less, spend more time with family, and live comfortably within our means. You can have all the money in the world, but without your family you have nothing!
