What’s the biggest risk you’d like to take — but haven’t been able to?

Risks can come in many shapes and forms. It can be something so simple as trying something new to something so extreme like changing career fields. With any risks there are pros and cons we must weigh them out to find the true risk factor. Most life choices there will always be a risk and we will never know the outcome unless we try it. Thinking about your choices in life, what stops you from taking a risk?

Choices!

Most people hate choices, they always want someone to make the choice for them. Most want to know the outcome of the risk to help them decide one way or the other. We will never know how something turns out unless we try. Even if we make a choice on taking a risk there may be more choices and risks within that risk. For example, you change careers in the medical field after working ten years in the automotive field. There is the first risk changing career fields. Another risk will be choosing what you want to do in the medical field (Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Assistant, Nurse, Doctor, etc.). With any choice or risk, we must know the pros and cons of it.

Pros and Cons of risk.

The best way to weigh the pros and cons of choices and risks is to create a list. Try to look at it and think of every angle with the risk. This list may be longer than expected but will help you expect more of the risk you are willing to take with each choice you make. For example, if you choose to leave the automotive field and move into the medical field, we will put the pros and cons of both fields. Then we are going to create a list of pros and cons for the different careers inside the medical field that you are interested in. We will look at it from schooling/training, risks that come with the job, money spent to get into that job, salary made from the job, and maybe even job security. We want a full list of every aspect so hopefully nothing is a surprise to us. Now we are not going to know everything good or bad about something. We can only do our research and try to get input from others in that field.

Isn’t research and someone’s input the same?

Not exactly! Research on the internet and books can help us understand what something is. We can also find out the good and bad stuff about it. When we get someone’s input on something, it tends to be more of an opinion at times. Everyone has something good or bad to say about something depending their feelings on it. So, when writing our pros and cons out we must make notes or put a marking on opinions verse facts. Opinions are great to have because they will include that person’s experience on that something.

Are risks worth it?

They can be, but like anything learn and get as much information as you can. Do your research and ask people who have experience or knowledge about the risk you are thinking of. List your choices that come with the risk. Finally write the pros and cons of every aspect of the risks you are thinking of taking. We can get people’s opinions of the risk and we also get their opinion of our pro and con list. Sometimes people’s opinions will help us look at something in a different way. The only true way to know if the risk was a good or bad thing is to experience it ourselves. We may fall on our face, but this is how we learn and grow.

What is something you took a risk on and how did you decide to take the risk?
