Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

Holidays are supposed to be the time family and friends get together and have fun. There are many different types of holidays celebrated around the world. Each holiday having a theme or different meaning. The main purpose most people today enjoy the holidays is to celebrate and see family and friends. Sometimes we lose the focus or reason behind the actual holiday day. Although it is nice to see family and friends especially the out-of-town ones, we should still focus on the meaning of the holiday and celebrate accordingly. What does a holiday mean to you?

We forget the meaning of a holiday!

Holidays are our favorite thing of the month besides our birthday. We get to eat great food, have fun, see and spend time with family and friends. Everything about a holiday is great plus we get extra days off and sometimes they are paid days off (bonus!). Holidays are celebrated to commemorate someone or something. We sometimes forget this and think it’s a day to party and have fun. While it is good to have fun, we should always be thankful and commemorate what the holiday truly means. For example, while we all love Christmas and gifts. My family will still bake a birthday cake and we will sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. For the real reason of anyone celebrating the day is to celebrate the birth of Jesus and so it should be commemorated just that way.

Holidays and traditions the same?

Holidays and traditions are not the same thing. While sometimes traditions will intertwine with holidays a holiday will never intertwine with tradition. Confusing right, well imagine a red rope and a green rope. Red will be a holiday, and green will be a tradition. The red rope will stay straight while the green rope will wrap itself around the red rope all randomly. By this we see a holiday will never change over time it remains straight. The tradition is passed down from generations and can change over time giving the uneven zig zagging motion of the green rope. So, the main difference is a holiday is created by congress where a tradition is just passed down from generation to generation (like having a family reunion on a certain day every year).

Everyone’s favorite thing!

Everyone’s favorite thing at the holiday is to eat great food and spend some needed time with family and friends. This is okay to enjoy the holidays this way. This is what brings us closer and makes beautiful memories. Being holidays brings us closer as a family they also remind us to give more so others can share the same special moments as us. Between Christmas and Halloween people give the most to others. Christmas time people give out gifts and Halloween people give out treats. Which holiday out of Christmas and Halloween do people give the most (not money wise)?

A new holiday!

If I had to invent a new holiday, I think there should be a holiday called Get-To-Gether Holiday. It would be a day where people would celebrate one another. One thing we always say especially at funerals is that we need to get together sometime. Yet we never do. Well on this holiday people will finally get together and have fun. There will be lots of food, drinks, music, dancing, and lots of laughter. It will be a day for family and friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company. There will be no special occasion just bring yourself and/or guests and a food dish (this can be from sides, deserts, salads, or a main dish). This will be the way we can get together without the craziness of going to stores and spending lots of money.
