Over the years we tend to acquire so much stuff. The stuff then takes over our home and sometimes our life. We all need to let some stuff go and not be a pack rat, where we save everything. Sometimes it can be hard to throw stuff away or get rid of it. We all like to think that some of this stuff has sentimental meaning to us or we may need this one day. We all need to learn or work on reducing clutter and getting organized. Do you like to be organized in your life?
The clutter takes over!
If we let everything build enough, it will soon take over our life and consume everything we do. One thing that can add to our clutter is literal junk. For example, saving screws or extra parts from bookshelf. While we don’t think much of it besides, we may use the extra screws one day. But if we do this for everything we buy and every project we do the clutter will add up. Clutter also doesn’t just come from us; it can come from other people too. An example of this is having a parent or grandparent who brings over unnecessary stuff thinking you could use it one day or you will like this. While their intentions are good and meaningful, we cannot just throw it out because that would hurt their feelings. So, we save it and maybe it starts to have sentimental meaning to us because the loved one who gave it to us really thought we would love it or need it. Do you have stuff that you feel you just can’t get rid of?
Getting organized!
The first step in anything is getting organized. Organize not only your stuff but your life too. Make a list or put the stuff into three categories “GET RID OF or THROW AWAY”, “MAYBE”, “MUST KEEP or MUST HAVE”. Once you start getting rid of stuff you will find it easier and easier to clean out the useless stuff in your life and in your home. When you review the maybe pile or list do not be afraid to go through it or come back to it multiple times and to really decide, do I need this and why. If your keep pile is too big you can always review it and come up with five reasons why you need to keep it. Being organized and having a schedule will keep your life so much simpler and less cluttered. The clutter in our life will consume more time than we will ever realize. Do you ever use a schedule to organize your life?
Cutting out the useless in our life.
Cutting stuff out of our life and getting rid of the clutter is never an easy thing. A few ways to help with this are, first: what does it contribute to my life and second: have I used this in the past year or two. It’s studied that most people, if they have not used something in the past year or two, most likely do not need it in their life. Now do not get me wrong, sometimes we do need to save some things and yet we do not use them all the time like tools or equipment and even some knickknacks or decorations. Some things we do need to save for we have a good strong purpose for it. Is there stuff you haven’t used in a few years and probably won’t?
How I eliminate clutter and the useless in my life.
It’s never an easy thing to just throw stuff away or get rid of something you truly feel you might need one day. In fact, I used to have a really hard time with this. I always liked to be organized with schedules and everything having its own place but with my ex-wife our life was always so cluttered. When she got everything, I learned quickly that I do not need anything (partly because I had nothing). I got my life back on track, all the clutter was cut out and I became more organized and had schedules set like I use to when I was growing up.
How do you think you can start by getting rid of the clutter in your life?
