Family traditions are all around us and how we live our life. Every family has some sort of family tradition. From how we spend our evenings, to the holidays, we follow family traditions. Most family traditions are formed around bringing the family closer and so we do not get caught up in ignoring our family. There would be many instances where we would let our busy life control how we live if it wasn’t for family traditions. Can you imagine if you had no family traditions to keep the family close or nearby?

Family traditions?

Family traditions are passed down from generation to generation. As family merges or new families are formed the traditions will continue from both sides of the families. Most family traditions that are passed down from both sides will sometimes mesh up together. The newly spouses or significant others will have the same beliefs or traditions. For example, a simple tradition could be that every evening the family will eat together. This tradition could be passed down from both sides of the families. Does your family have a tradition where you will eat dinner together?

Keeping the family together through traditions.

As elders pass through this life a piece of them dies off. A result of this is the family will sometimes have a hard time staying connected or staying as close as they used to. Family traditions can keep families together, maybe not as close as they used to be, but at least in touch with one another. A prime example of this is holiday family traditions. Most families will celebrate the holidays together and this will help everyone keep in touch. While holidays are important in the aspect of the holiday to be celebrated, it’s also important to keep families together. Does your family get together for the holidays?

A life with no traditions.

Traditions are passed down from generation to generation, but when this doesn’t happen then all traditions have a possibility of dying off. Traditions are one way the family stays connected and does not fall apart. If a family has no traditions or rules, then that family will soon fall apart. Families would not stay in touch, visit for holidays, or possibly eat dinner together. In the home of a family everyone would be living as acquaintances. You would see them when they pass by. Kids, especially as they get older, want nothing to do with their parents and will do everything to avoid them. This would defiantly happen if traditions didn’t force or keep the family together. Can you imagine if traditions didn’t exist in your family?

My family traditions.

My family has many traditions, most are small, but they mean a lot to us. We are to sit at the dinner table every evening/night to have dinner. There are no phones at the dinner table during dinner time. On our days off we have movie night where we will watch a movie together. For bigger traditions we celebrate holidays with family. We decorate our home as a family according to the season and holidays. We will partake in many holiday functions as a family during the holiday season. We take 1 to 2 big vacation trips and 3 to 4 mini vacation trips per year. While it sometimes seems that rules and traditions coincide with each other they are the foundation of our family and keep us together.

What is one of your families’ biggest traditions?
