Do you need a break? From what?

Workdays can get very busy, and we will feel like we are falling behind in our workload. Sometimes we feel we are pressured by management that we need to finish our workload plus some. Our workload can pile up that we feel we need to stay late or skip our breaks. Skipping breaks is not a good thing. Company breaks are owed to you, the same with lunch breaks. If the company is not compensating, you for your time then you should not be working. The workload can wait if the company is not going to compensate you for you staying late or missing your breaks. Sometimes it’s easier said than done when the workload piles up. Do you have an overwhelming amount workload sometimes?

Too much work and not enough time!

Sometimes our workload can pile up on us we feel we will never overcome it all. We are afraid if we do not work extra on the workload we will fall further behind. We start to stay late 10 to 15 minutes and work through a break. The more we do this the more normal this becomes for us to keep doing. It then escalates to us missing all of our breaks and staying an hour or two after our off time. Meanwhile we are doing this and not being compensated besides the feeling inside us of catching up on our workload. This can also backfire on us too, due to management giving more tasks in our workload. Have you ever worked while not being compensated?

Breaks are owed, not a privilege!

Our breaks are owed to us. This is in the policy or company agreement. Do not work through your breaks or stay late without being compensated. Its not worth it. As much as we feel we need to we should never do this. Management will take advantage of you, and they may not realize you working through breaks or staying late. They will think you can handle more tasks and a heavier workload since you are staying up with your current workload. Have you ever gotten more tasks, or a bigger workload added to your current workload?

Be honest with management.

If you are struggling with keeping up on your workload, you should bring this up with your management. At this time, you can bring it up to management that you can stay late for overtime to keep up with the workload. Offer them a solution where you will be compensated. They also might be willing to remove some of your tasks or workload, which would make it more manageable for you to complete it in a timely manner. How I deal with excess work.

I have worked through breaks and lunch to catch up on my workload or if a task needs to be done like now. I always feel I am helping the company and getting on management’s good side. It starts off innocently but then before you know it management starts to always expect it. One way I deal with this is I talk to management about my workload. Work out a way to ease the workload or tasks I have.
