Describe a phase in life that was difficult to say goodbye to.

It’s never easy to say goodbye to something, especially if it is goodbye forever. Many times, we have to say goodbye to loved ones and pets who pass away. Just because they are not here with us in physical form in this world doesn’t mean they are forgotten or gone forever. Their memory can live forever in our minds and heart. Everyone and everything we love gets a special place in our hearts. We will share the memories with others to keep them alive in our hearts. When we suddenly lose someone or something we will feel many emotions as well as feeling broken or lost. Do you find it hard to say goodbye to someone or something?

Saying goodbye.

As often as we say goodbye to family, friends, and pets we hope we will see them later or another day. We often do not think that this could be the last time I hear this person’s voice or the last time I will see them. Now this doesn’t mean we should live in depression or in fear. What this does mean is that we should hold onto the precious memories and moments. We should be kinder, nicer, and more loving to the people and animals around us. Sometimes we do not realize how much we miss or love something or someone until its gone. Do you ever think that this could be the last time you see or talk to someone?

Memory be Eternal!

The Orthodox always give their sympathy or condolences to people who lost someone by saying “May their memory be eternal!”. While yes, they feel sorry for their loss and everything, they do not want to just express how they feel. The Orthodox show their sympathy or condolences by showing up and being there for loved ones. One thing they hope for is that their memory will live forever in our hearts, and they are never forgotten. A wise man (I barely know) Pastor Randy Vinson said, “A funeral is one place people will show up to without being invited to.” People show up to show their love and support to the family and the person who left this world. Do you believe a person truly dies or is forgotten when the memory of them dies?

Emotions.

When we lose someone or something important to us, we tend to feel many different emotions. Many times, we will feel certain emotions during the stages of grieving. Not everyone grieves the same and not everyone will go through all the emotional stages of the grieving process. Many times, when we lose someone or something we will feel like we just lost a piece of ourselves. We tend to feel lost ourselves. The day will just feel empty, like we do not know what we are going to do or survive without this piece of ourselves. Time is everything. The healing process can take a long time. Everyone’s healing process and the emotions they feel are different. Do your emotions run wild when you lose someone or something?

How I say goodbye.

I always follow Orthodox tradition saying to others who lost someone or something special to them “May their memory be eternal”. By us remembering that person keeps them alive in our hearts. I have lost many great people and animals in my lifetime. I feel sometimes you learn to just deal with it. I am not a person who cries or shows my emotions. I just accept things the way there are. That’s how I grieve and it’s how I have always been. The biggest things that have hurt the most so far was losing my grandparents. I cannot imagine losing my parents, I don’t think anything ever prepares us for that.

What was the thing you lost that meant the most to you?
