When going on a long road trip we try to make it the best, memorable trip ever. We must think what it is that makes a road trip awesome or memorable. The first thing is we want to know the route that we will be taking. From there we can research and plan for things to see or do along the way. Depending on the age group of the occupants with you will also determine what types of things you will want to see or do along the way. While winging it can be fun and exciting, you will get more out of the road trip if you plan it out. Planning will also make sure you don’t miss something that you may have wanted to see or do. Do you plan your road trips out or just wing it?
Planning is the first step.
When deciding to go on a road trip the first step is planning. Know the ages (roughly) of the occupants that will be traveling with you. Know or ask them what their likes or dislikes are (do they like sightseeing, or do they like stopping and trying new stuff, or maybe they like both). Know that the more people traveling with you, means you will have to try to please everyone a little. Plan the best route that along the way will have something everyone enjoys. Know what your time frame is (how long you willing to travel for, how long you want to stay at your destination, and how long you willing to travel back). This will determine how many stops you can do, or which route you will take. Do you like making multiple stops when driving or do you like to get from point A to point B with the minimum stops as possible?
Planning things to do or see.
Do your research along the route you will be taking or cities you will be driving through. Sometimes the smallest cities or towns have the most to offer. When deciding when you will stop for food, try to find something new, or interesting to eat at. Road trips are the way you can experience a lot if they are planned right. Research on the internet what are the must see along the route you are taking and the cities you will be passing through or by. Sometimes you may have to detour a little to experience something really amazing, and here if you didn’t research it, you would’ve missed it.
Timing is everything!
When planning your route, timing is everything. Know what the maximum time is you are willing to be driving, or what is the minimum time you want to spend at the destination. This will determine how you plan your route. You might be able to catch a cool photo spot for the sunrise or sunset. There may also be a great restaurant to eat breakfast or dinner at too. If you plan everything out and it’s on a schedule you can plan an epic road trip. Do you plan your stops or things to see?
Don’t forget the to do(s).
To make your trip more memorable do not forget to capture the moments! Always have a someone or multiple people taking pictures and videos of the adventure. When possible, souvenirs are great things to remember which states, cities, or routes you took during the road trip. Lastly no matter what happens the good or bad, have fun with it. Everything in the end will be a laughing matter or joke, especially the bad stuff. The bad stuff is what sometimes make the trip most memorable (For example, I remember when I was young, I was on a boating trip with my grandfather, stepdad and my younger brother. We got stuck in port for 5 days due to bad weather. In this small port there wasn’t much to do. But I always remember how us 4 would play euchre every night and we ate 5 pounds of spaghetti one of the nights. We had minimum water due to the town not having drinkable water.). Sometimes the worst moments when you just want to get angry, upset, or think this is the worst, will honestly become the greatest memory.
My trips.
My road trips are mostly planned out a little. I always know the route, then I try to pick spots or areas we want to stop and eat. I usually do not pick where we are eating until we stop. If the trip is going to be longer or they may be something we may want to stop and see, I will then plan on stuff to stop and see along the way. Most of the time on that type of stuff I do kind of wing it or as we are driving, and we know we need to stop for fuel or food then I will look up what is in the nearby cities or towns to see or do. One thing I try to do and make sure everyone else is doing is to have fun. Have fun no matter what you do or see. Make the most out of everything. Do you make the most of your trips, even when things are bad?
What was the most memorable road trip you have been on?
