Snacking between meals can be a good thing but also can be a bad thing. According to 2022 Food and Health Survey 73% of Americans will snack at least once a day. There are many reasons why someone will snack throughout the day. If you are snacking healthily and not overdoing it, then snacking can be healthy. When we snack too much where we will miss a meal here and there due to snacking this can be bad. Like anything we must be doing it for the right reasons and in moderation. Have you snacked so much that you missed lunch or dinner?
Closet snacker.
Snacking in not as uncommon as you think, there’s no need to go sneaking around or hiding in your room. Closet snacking could potentially be more harmful to your body than openly eating. You are going to sneak around and quickly eat whatever you can get your hands on. Where if you openly snack, you may be on a set snacking schedule and the snack will be planned out and not rushed, it also may be healthier too. Have you tried to closet snacking?
Healthy versus unhealthy snacks.
When it comes to types of snacking food there isn’t a healthy or unhealthy snack. If you are just trying to curb your sweet tooth, then a piece of candy or two is okay. If you are looking to curb your appetite, then something like vegetables or light wight will do the trick. The only time snacking is unhealthy is when you do too much of something or you are eating because you are bored. Eating a one-pound bag of M&M’s chocolate is not a good thing! This is way too much candy for a person to eat as a snack. Not only does candy have no nutrition value but after you ate the one-pound bag you now decide to skip dinner because you are full. The is a double bad! You are missing out on out on nutrients, and you are throwing off your food schedule intake. Have you ever over snacked on something?
Snacking good for us?
Snacking in moderation can be an excellent thing for us. It can help us from eating large meals (our meals will be smaller and easier to digest). If you get hungry but dinner is not for a few more hours, a light snack is a way to curb hunger. Our bodies will tell us we a hungry when we need nutrients or more energy, so snacking is not always a bad thing. Do you listen to your body and eat when you are hungry, or do you wait until mealtime?
How and why, I snack.
On my days off I do not snack. I will snack at work in place of eating lunch. Most of the time I need something to curb my appetite and hold me off to dinner. I try to eat mix of stuff to hit most food groups. A work snack for me is usually an apple, some sweet and salty trail mix, and peanut butter crackers. Occasionally I treat myself to lunch from somewhere. But I really try to eat one good meal a day which is dinner. I find this helps me maintain my weight and not gain any weight. Sometimes when I eat lunch at work I will have to eat fast and it’s usually not super healthy so my weight will tend to go up. You must find what works for you when snacking or so called replacing a meal with a snack.
What is your favorite snack and how often do you snack?
