Having playtime daily in your life is very important. Playtime is supposed to be a time to play games or do stuff with the family. Playtime is about having fun, bringing the family closer, and relieving that everyday stress. Sometimes it’s nice to step back from reality and put your family first and get on that same connection. When life gets hectic and stressful, we forget about the important stuff around us including our family. Do you take time once a week and spend it with family?
What is playtime?
Playtime can be anything from going putt-putt golf, movie theater, playing board games, playing a game on the television, etc. This is time to step away from life’s stressors and worries. Remember it doesn’t have to be expensive or adventurous. Having playtime with the family will bring the family closer and show that in the hectic life family is always number one. Do you show or tell your family that you love them every day?
How to choose family time and what to do?
The first thing is introducing the idea to the family. Maybe around dinner when the family is together, bringing up the idea of playtime. Let them know that this can be a once a week, every other week or once a month (whatever works with everyone’s schedule) thing where the family will do something together. Don’t be afraid to set rules especially for the children, this is what we are doing and that’s that. Teens will do anything to not hang around their parents. When choosing what to do you can make it fun. Either each person will have an assigned month or day that they will choose what the playtime will be. If that doesn’t work, then pool in three or four ideas and have the family vote on it. Could you see yourself having playtime with your family?
How my family does playtime.
We do not do something every week or every other week. Instead, we will do something monthly. We try to be spontaneous, fun and adventurous. We will let the family the that on a certain day to not plan anything because we are going to do something. This is our time to step back from work and school and focus on family and having fun. It’s great for the kids because then they know we are not these grumpy parents that nag them all the time for nothing (which we don’t, but teenagers think so). We always do stuff the whole family enjoys, and it really keeps us closer. Plus, it’s always a bonus when you see everyone acting like their true selves and having fun.
If you did playtime, what would that look like for you?
