Our elders and parents always talk about the things they accomplished or how hard life was when they were our age. Everyone will have their ups and downs throughout life. Our elder’s life always seemed like it was either easier times or harder times depending how they wanted to tell the story of their life. Life can seem like one extreme to the other depending how you make it seem. Sometimes when we live during life events, they can always seem more extreme than they actually are. Do you ever over exaggerate your life stories?
Life of the elders and our parents.
We all love to hear the old stories back in the day. We try to put ourselves in their shoes as they tell the story in detail. Sometimes they tell us stories to stress how hard or easy life was. Some stories can be over exaggerated when elders say they walked up hill both ways to and from school in 4 feet of snow. Most stories that are told can be so interesting. We can learn so much from some of the stories that are told by our elders. Do you enjoy listening to the stories that are told by your elders?
The ups and downs stories.
Elders love talking about the ups and downs in life. The elders will try to use their experiences throughout life and try to teach the younger generations. Everyone likes to talk about their experiences and achievements throughout life and this is perfect time for elders to share theirs. Elders love to relive their memories in life by telling the stories and experiences they once had. Do you like to relive your memories by telling stories of your life?
Exaggerating stories.
Stories tend to always get over aggerated when they are about a big life event that happened to us. For example, talking about the first fish you ever caught. Even though the fish was only six inches long every year when you tell it the fish grows two inches. By the time you tell your grandchildren the story of your first fish you caught, the fish was 22 inches long. Some elderly stories get overly exaggerated to make you think you have it way better today than it was back when they were your age. Did your elders ever over aggerate their stories to try to trick you or make it seem like it was more extreme than it was?
Stories told to me.
I always liked to hear the stories that my grandparents told. I still enjoy hearing stories of when my parents were my age or younger. Times might have been different back then, but I always feel I can relate to them or at least I try to. Sometimes I can learn valuable lessons from listening to the stories or memories from my parents and elders.
What is your favorite memory or story that your parents told you?
