How have you adapted to the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic?

Since Covid-19 pandemic hit back in 2020 some people have changed the way they live and do things. Some people are more cautious about interacting with strangers and masking up when they go out in public. When people get the flu or allergies, the first thing they think of is that they have Covid-19 virus. Some people’s instincts are to call for an ambulance and/or get to the hospital. The media has made the Covid-19 pandemic a bigger thing than it should’ve been. Because of the media most people still have the fear of Covid-19 virus today. How do you react when you get sick or ill?

Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed people so many ways. In the beginning Covid-19 put fear into most people, especially healthcare workers. Everyone thought they were going to die if they contracted the virus. In the beginning it baffled scientists, doctors and the CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Everyday protocols and procedures changed how we would PPE (personal protective equipment), treat, care, clean and sterilize, especially in the medical field. Today we have learned how to treat and fight the virus. Most people now do not fear the virus and it doesn’t pose a huge threat like it did in the beginning. What was your first thought when you heard about the Covid-19 virus?

How Covid-19 is looked at today.

Today Covid-19 is thought to be like any other flu virus. While it still can pose some threats to people with respiratory problems or autoimmune disease. Standard care after being around someone who is sick such as washing or sanitizing hands and keeping all surfaces (tables, chairs, door handles, etc.) clean. Some people still mask up with a N-95 or surgical mask when sick or being around others who are sick. How do you see Covid-19 virus today, anything like the past?

The media.

The media sometimes does more harm than good. When Covid-19 first came into the United States the media ran wild and put more fear into people than anything should’ve. Anyone who was watching or reading the news feared this virus. Some people locked themselves in their homes and would not have any contact with anyone outside. The media made it seem everything is infected from the air we breathe to the things we touch and see. Since the Covid-19 pandemic calmed down and it is now looked as a virus, the media has tried to boost their ratings by stating Covid-19 is on the rise. Most people have learned the truth about the Covid-19 virus and the media is not having much success boosting its ratings by talking about the virus. Do you think the media used Covid-19 to boost their ratings, or do you believe what the media was telling the people was very informational?

Me working in the medical field.

When Covid-19 first hit the ambulance company I worked for, and the CDC kept us in the loop of what we might be dealing with. In the beginning we wore full PPE from head to toe. Any infected or possible infected person we had to clean the ambulance from top to bottom. After a few months into the Covid-19 pandemic I was then working for my current company I work for, but at the TCF Center (formally known as COBO Hall, now Huntington Center) in Detroit with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). I was on the transporting EMS team. Today some of us treat Covid-19 like any other flu. We don’t mask up but wear PPE gloves and will clean everything that comes in contact with the patient. Overall Covid-19 virus made a lot of people realize that we do not know everything about medicine especially the way everything was changing 5 to 6 times per day for about a month straight.

How has Covid-19 affected you, and what do you do differently today because of it?

I totally get what you’re saying about the media and the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s true that the media plays a big role in shaping people’s perceptions and fears. Sometimes they can exaggerate things and make it seem scarier than it actually is. But it’s also important to remember that the media has a responsibility to inform the public and keep them updated on important health issues. It’s all about finding a balance and being well-informed without letting fear take over.

As for me, when I get sick or ill, I try to take care of myself by resting, drinking fluids, and following any necessary medical advice. It’s always good to listen to your body and seek medical help if needed.

Very well said about the media. It’s true they need to be informative but need to stick to facts and not use their opinions or be biased.

Not saying that’s easy because it’s definitely not. We all want to state what we think and believe in. But I totally agree with you!
