Most people think they are limited to certain things. One of the biggest myths that people believe revolves around education and careers. People like to believe that to be a doctor or lawyer your family must be rich, or you must have a doctor or lawyer in the family. No one wants to believe that they can do or be anything they want. Sometimes we feel like we are limited due to the way we are brought up. The way we are brought up and what we believe in, has been influenced by the people in our lives. Did you ever feel like you were held back from doing something or from being something?
Being held back.
We all want to think that there is something always holding us back. When we think we can’t do something we want to have an excuse or something to blame. When the only thing holding us back is ourselves. If we do not do something or do not be something, we have no one to blame except ourselves. We can learn, work hard, practice, do and be anything we want. Hard work and practice will always pay off. Do you ever blame yourself for anything or do you have an excuse for everything?
Having the perfect influences.
Everyone believes that to be rich you must come from a wealthy family. Same with being able to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist, archeologist, etc. We all want someone to help us or do the hard part for us. We can be anything, but reality is no one is doing free handouts. While having good influences is always helpful, we can technically get good influences from the people around us. Having a supportive (not financially) family, friends, and teachers can be the perfect influence we need. Sometimes having bad influence such as someone telling us we can’t do something will make us push ourselves even harder to succeed. Which influence is more important, rich influences or supportive influences?
Brought up by the good life.
We all believe that to succeed we must be brought up in a certain way. While the way we are brought up does play a role in our lives, it really comes down to how much we want something. Being brought up a certain way will always play a huge role in our lives. But we do not always have to have the positive, perfect childhood life to be successful. Sometimes having the poor or horrible childhood can have the opposite effect on your outcome in life. Deep down you will want to push harder and strive farther to be better than what you had. You will want to prove to everyone that you as an adult are not going to have a horrible adult life too. Do you think the way you were brought up influenced your life for better or worse?
My life and how I was brought up.
My parents especially my mom stressed to me and my siblings that we could be anything we wanted as long as we hard towards it. As I got into middle school and high school my dad really pushed me into auto mechanics. As I got older, I wanted to get into the medical field but didn’t want to disappoint them. For me to finally get into the medical field I had to have someone tell me that I need to “just do it”. If it’s a passion, then you must go after it.
What is something you thought you could never do on your own?
