Many people have done various types of jobs. While most jobs are just jobs, they do not become long careers. Every job or career has its pros and cons. In the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) field can be one of the hardest fields to work in. The pay is not anything to brag about. One thing that the hospitals do for first responders is celebrate EMS week. They do something every day during EMS week to show their appreciation. So, sometimes the pros can outweigh the cons due to the little things. Do you consider your job a long career?
Everything has pros and cons.
Every job or career is never perfect. Everything will have its pros and cons. Sometimes when deciding if something is right for you, you must weigh out the pros and cons. If the pros outweigh the cons, then the job or career may be a good fit for you. There are many times the perks of a job or career will make the pros outweigh the cons. Never get caught up in trying to find the job or career that has no cons, because that will most likely never happen (not saying it’s impossible). What pros in your job or career outweighed the cons?
EMS field.
When most people think of EMS they think of ambulance drivers. EMT (Emergency Medical Technicians) do more than just driving an ambulance. The skills obtained and used in the medical field usually go unnoticed unless you are in the emergency medical field, in need of an ambulance, or have family that works as a first responder. The ambulance is like an ER (Emergency Room) at a hospital. Except the ambulance is a third of the space, staffed with only two people, and going down the road 70 mph. On the ambulance there is no calling a doctor for help or a nurse for a second hand. EMT’s must do everything on their own. Did you know most things that is done in a hospital can also be done in the ambulance before you get to the hospital?
EMS week.
EMS week is celebrated this year from May 19 – 25, 2024. One huge perk of being a first responders is that local EMS companies and hospitals will go out of their way to give small gifts and food to first responders. Many places will hold small contests such as a giveaway. While being a first responder is sometimes not the easiest job, it is still nice to see the well support by local agencies and hospitals. Can you imagine having a whole week dedicated to the work you do at your job or career?
My work experience.
I have had many jobs in my lifetime from grass cutting, auto mechanics, boat mechanic, fast food, factories, hospitals, and EMS. One of the jobs I enjoy the most would be EMS. I enjoy being able to help people in need, or comforting family members as we take care of their loved one. This career field is sometimes not easy. We see the worst of the worst. Most people call at their worst moments. We always must be ready for anything and everything. Sometimes no matter how much you train or prepare yourself you will feel like you are not prepared enough. Every year EMS week is celebrated to honor the past, present and future EMS and first responders. This year marks the 50th anniversary of EMS week. So, this week give an extra thank you and stay safe to every first responder and EMS work you know or meet.
