What makes a teacher great?

Teachers are often under appreciated. Their job is nothing like your job. There are many times a teacher just wishes it’s going to be an easy and quiet day. There are many days the teacher just wants to go to work and every student listens and doesn’t talk back or misbehaves. To be a great teacher requires skills, patience, and calmness. Anyone can be a teacher but not everyone is a good teacher. Everyone has a teacher that they will remember throughout their life which helped shape them to be who they are today. Do you think a great teacher is learned or naturally acquired?

Teachers’ problem now.

Most people never think about the things a teacher goes through to teach a class. Many parents cannot wait to drop their kids off so they can get things done around the house or have some peace and quiet. The thing we don’t think about is the menace child that is now the teacher’s problem, the teacher will have to deal with while teaching twenty other students. Sometimes we only think about our crazy kid but never think about that there may be more than one crazy kid in the classroom for the teacher to deal with. Have you ever looked forward to dropping your kids off so you can get a break?

Costs of a teacher.

Being a teacher comes with many costs. They must supply many school supplies. Pencils, markers, scissors, glue and even Kleenex are usually not supplied by the school. Don’t you like leaving work at work? Many times, teachers are stuck taking their work home or staying at work late to get work done. For example, grading papers can be complex especially if it’s a five-page paper the students had to write. Teachers do not get to gossip or complain to the ones who they are next to for their workday. They must watch what they say and do, for students look up to them as role models. Do you ever think about the sacrifices a teacher has to make?

The great teacher.

For a teacher to be great a certain number of criteria must be met. Students will have a certain number of criteria that makes a teacher great for them. Parents will have their criteria that must be met for a teacher to be great in their eyes. Students want a teacher that cares, is fun, and makes learning easy. Where parents want their child to get the most out of the school and teacher; this is what makes a great teacher to a parent. Teacher must be able to juggle all these things while handling the problem/more difficult students. Have you or your child had a great teacher?

A great teacher to me.

Every teacher out there does not get enough credit. When I say every teacher, I mean teachers (K-12), professors (universities and colleges), tutors, trainers (all jobs), etc. Every one of these people must adapt the way they teach so everyone of their students/subordinates are able to grasp the material and excel from it. Being a teacher or mentor is not just a job but it’s also a passion to watch people grow and excel from your teachings. One thing I always say is that we can always learn something new, even if you think you know everything (which you don’t), you still can always learn something new every day. So, to be a great teacher you must be a great learner. Teacher must learn how you learn, before they can teach you something new!

What makes a great teacher to you?
